GURGI from The Book of Three from our Favorite Books collection Hand Dyed Superwash Merino Yarn,Sock Toad
During a virtual trunk show with Paige from Frame and Fiber, we discussed some of our favorite books as children. You can find the video here. This is one of the books chosen by Mary Beth.
The Book of Three is the first of five books in the Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander which draw inspiration from Welsh mythology and folklore. Gurgi is on the characters in the books. He is described as being a cross between man and beast, having long arms, covered with fur and leaves. He is always hungry and his demeanor is extremely loyal and caring, almost to a fault. His manner of speech is filled with rhymed pairs of words ("crunchings and munchings", "smackings and whackings", "sneakings and peekings", etc.)
To get the yarn for Gurgi, we layered different color browns over one another.
Yarn is available in fingering and DK weights:
Sock Toad Base: $28/skein
80% superwash merino, 20% Nylon
Toad DK: $28/skein
100% superwash merino
Our yarns are hand dyed or hand painted using professional acid dyes. We wash each skein carefully after dying but slight bleeding may occur during first wash. Skeins may vary in color slightly so if using more than one skein of yarn in a project, please alternate skeins every few rows.
This soft, squishy yarn is perfect for socks, shawls, sweaters or any project where you would use a Fingering weight.
Care of yarn - superwash merino will allow you to wash your items in the washing machine but please use cold water. For best results and care, hand washing is recommended.
