KIKI from The Adventure Books from our Favorite Books collection Hand Dyed Superwash Merino Yarn,Sock Toad
During a virtual trunk show with Paige from Frame and Fiber, we discussed some of our favorite books as children. You can find the video here. This is one of the books chosen by Helen.
Growing up, our parents read to us all the time. However, my mother would not read The Adventure Books to us by Enid Blyton because she felt that they should be something we experienced all by ourselves.
The Adventure Books follow 4 children as they get into all sorts of excitement during the school holidays. We all adored them and imagined ourselves on the Island or in the Castle or lost in the Valley with Dinah, Phillip, Jack and Lucy-Ann. There was an old ruined stable across the street from us that we turned into the Castle all the time.
Other than the children, one of the main characters was Kiki, Jack’s parrot, who was with him all the time. She was described as a cockatoo so we took the yarn colors from there. We kept most of the skein white but did a light peach wash and added some light yellows as well.
Yarn is available in fingering and DK weights:
Sock Toad Base: $28/skein
80% superwash merino, 20% Nylon
Toad DK: $28/skein
100% superwash merino
Our yarns are hand dyed or hand painted using professional acid dyes. We wash each skein carefully after dying but slight bleeding may occur during first wash. Skeins may vary in color slightly so if using more than one skein of yarn in a project, please alternate skeins every few rows.
This soft, squishy yarn is perfect for socks, shawls, sweaters or any project where you would use a Fingering weight.
Care of yarn - superwash merino will allow you to wash your items in the washing machine but please use cold water. For best results and care, hand washing is recommended.
