STITCHWORT from The Spring Fling collection, Toads Tales, Toad Hollow Yarns
This is from our 4th Toads’ Tales - The Spring Fling collection. Toads’ Tales are stories from The Hollow, a whimsical woodland home to the creatures that live in our imaginations. Every now and then they poke their heads out and tell us a story or two, which we then share with you.
THE SPRING FLING
There are indeed fairies living in the forest just outside The Hollow, as there are in many wilder areas of Nature. That overgrown corner of your yard may be home to a Fairy or two. But the woods near The Hollow were full of all types of fairies.
Bluebell and her friends are the guardians of the early flowers. Their busiest time is Spring when all the new growth comes. Their favorite event is the first parade, when they march through the forest, singing and laughing, waking all the slumbering animals and reminding the plants to start growing again. The official title is The Vernal March, but everyone just calls it the Spring Fling.
Bluebell is in charge of the wilder animals, convincing them to let the younger fairies ride on their backs. Colts Foot organizes the musicians and practices with them, getting the music just right.
Windflower checks on the costumes because everyone in the parade will be wearing their finest, most colorful outfits. And Stitchwort and the Crocuses are in charge of the party that waits at the end of the March, which will go into the wee hours of the morning.
When all are ready, the music starts and off they go. As they progress through the trees, more and more fairies join the line. The birds add their songs to the music. And throughout The Hollow, although they don’t quite know why, everyone feels a deep sense of hope and joy. Spring is coming. New things are growing. Life begins again. And that is the magic of the fairies.
