Welcome to our latest club - Who Runs the World - in which we will celebrate strong, fearless, innovative women each month. Our inspiration comes from artists, authors, activists, etc.

Mary Anderson was a real estate developer, a rancher, and the inventor of the modern day windshield wiper. While in NYC in 1902, she rode a trolley car where the driver had to stop and wipe the window free of snow every time it got covered. She came up with the idea of a blade that could clear the windshield that would be operated from inside the car. She applied and was approved for a patent in 1903. She tried unsuccessfully to get manufacturing firms to make it but, since automobiles were very scarce at that time, no one would take it on. By 1922, when cars were much more prevalent, the wipers were installed as standard equipment. But, since her patent ran out in 1920, she never got money or recognition for her invention.

For this yarn, we took inspiration from one of our favorite cars - a VW bus - especially one covered in flowers.

Please share with us what you are making with your yarn. You can tag us on Instagram with @toadhollownj or join our facebook group Crafting with the Toads.

Our yarns are hand dyed or hand painted using professional acid dyes. We wash each skein carefully after dying but slight bleeding may occur during first wash. Skeins may vary in color slightly so if using more than one skein of yarn in a project, please alternate skeins every few rows.

Care of yarn - superwash merino will allow you to wash your items in the washing machine but please use cold water. For best results and care, hand washing is recommended.
